What would your life be like if you told the truth all the time? Would you have to change a lot or just a little? Did you ever see Liar Liar? We laughed at the attorney who was forced to face his behavior in the courtroom and at home as he could no longer lie his way through life. How many of us saw ourselves in him? Or did we walk away thanking God that we are not forced to tell the truth to everyone we know!
It’s hard to look at ourselves in the mirror and be objective about our behaviors. It’s much easier to reason and justify why we behave the way we do toward our spouse, our kids and our co-workers. We also love the way other people talk and go on about others so we don’t have to look at ourselves. When did we get to the place in our society that it’s more important talk about others than to talk to ourselves? Maybe it’s time to not only talk to ourselves but to tell ourselves the truth. Maybe this is the stepping stone to growing up and being real.
