It is all too easy to think that entertaining outdoors is a summertime activity. However, this isn’t strictly the case, as no matter what the temperature, it is always fun to take things “al fresco”. Indeed, unless the rain really hits, and the wind really picks up, there is nothing to stop you from throwing a thanksgiving or Christmas celebration in your garden.

An excellent idea for the end of year holidays is to have a barbecue. Or why not throw the invitation open to your neighbors and have a fantastic New Year’s Party? The heat generated from the barbecue itself will be warm enough for a small group; but if you have several guests planned, renting one or two outdoor heaters could be an idea.

These can of course be a little expensive however, and are not best known for being helpful to the environment. An alternative option therefore could be an outdoor fire pit or kiln; where you can safely burn charcoal and wood; which also creates a much cozier feeling.

Decorating your outdoor space is excellent throughout the winter too. Outside Christmas lights and decorations are immensely popular on the front of homes already of course; so why not extend the joy to the rear gardens?

Decorating plants, trees and shrubbery is excellent when entertaining outdoors too, and there are winter wonderlands that can be created with the wide selection of external decorations and lights available in stores these days.

To really create a party atmosphere, you will of course need music playing. And here again, there are a host of outdoor entertainment systems which are suitable. Many newer speakers also have attachments and docks for hooking up your favorite MP3 players too; which really pack a punch to get the party going.

Of course, if you or your friends are musicians or songwriters, invite them to bring along their instruments and have an old fashioned guitar pull or jam session. There’s nothing more fun than a group of players making music!

So this year, as we all gear up to party the season and the year away; why not extend the festivities to entertaining outdoors? You will wonder why you hadn’t done it before!
